Former German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture and current spokeswoman of the Green Party for nutrition and animal welfare policy

Born in Recklinghausen in 1955, Renate Künast is a politician, lawyer, and social worker. From 2000 to 2001, she was Federal Chairwoman of the Green Party in Germany and, from 2001 to 2005, Federal Minister of Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture. From 2005 to 2013, she was the leader of the Green Party parliamentary group and from 2014 to 2017 she was Chairwoman of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection. She is currently a member of the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and lives in Berlin. During the current 19th legislative period, Künast is a member of the Committee for Food and Agriculture and a deputy member of the Committee for Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection, as well as spokesperson for nutrition and animal welfare in the Green Party. She is also Chairwoman of the ASEAN Parliamentary Group.
