The Bolle location is one of the most impressive event venues in Berlin. Built in the industrial era of the 1890s, the landmarked brick building has a notable history.
For most of its life, the building was known as the Carl Bolle Dairy Factory. Designed as a worker’s chapel and ballroom for the dairy plant, the building consolidated Bolle’s reputation as the most advanced milk company in the city. As well as production facilities and workers’ accommodation for most of his 2,000 employees, Carl Bolle also created social infrastructures along with stables and vehicle fleets. He earned himself the nickname ‘Bimmelbolle’ (“jingle Bolle”) due to his coachmen and milkmaids swinging their bells while traversing Berlin’s streets on hundreds of horse carriages to deliver fresh milk – as well as the latest gossip.
In 2013 and 2014, the building went through extensive renovations and was transformed into what is now the Bolle Event Venue. Complying with strict monument-protection criteria, the renovation process lead to a rediscovery of some hidden features of the building’s late 19th-century architecture and further highlighted its unique character.
We could not have thought of a more fitting location to stage Europe’s pioneering conference on new-protein solutions. While the grandeur of the industrial-era architecture remains unchanged, the content of the conference promises bold new directions for the future. The New Food Conference will clearly illustrate why dairy – and other animal-based products – need to be viewed as a relic of days gone by. Join us as we let the architecture of the past to guide us into the future of food.
The Bolle Event Venue is in the heart of Berlin. Hauptbahnhof (Berlin’s main train station) is within walking distance, as is Tiergarten, Berlin’s biggest park and green oasis. There are numerous public parking spots in the area and the Spreebogen underground park will also be at your disposal.
