Director of Sustainable Eating & Public Affairs at Oatly
Cecilia McAleavey is Director of Sustainable Eating & Public Affairs at Oatly and a committed and passionate spokesperson for the plant-based revolution. Oatly was founded back in the 1990s and is based on Swedish research from Lund University. Based on scientific facts, the company is challenging norms and pushing for a shift to plant-based diets to tackle climate change and public health challenges. The Swedish company is dedicated to make it easy for people to shift to plant-based dairy products, and has developed a patented enzyme technology which copies nature’s own process and turns fiber rich oats into nutritional liquid food. Oatly has completely disrupted the food industry generating an oat drink craze in the US and Europe and has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the top ten most innovative companies in the world.
Cecilia McAleavey is the President of Plant-foods Sweden, a Swedish Industry Organisation promoting plant-based production and consumption of plant-based foods, as well as on the Steering Committee of the recently launched pan-European iniative European Alliance for Plant-based Foods (EAPF).
Cecilia is driven by a desire to make a difference, and throughout her career she has taken on roles to have an impact on subjects close to her heart. She started off her career as a journalist before moving on to working for the European Commission, first on development cooperation and later on sustainability and communication in the Cabinet of the Environment Commissioner Margot Wallström. She continued her career working at Lund University and the University Hospital of Malmö heading up the communication departments. Before joining Oatly, Cecilia had a role as Sustainability Director at Orkla, another Nordic food company.
